How long have you been a Ham?
I have been licensed since 2017.
What mode(s) within Amateur Radio do you enjoy operating?
I would love to do more contesting once I get a permanent solution for my antenna at my house. I am also getting into mobile ops, so my newest setup is for getting in the air while camping, especially as I get my new gladiator set up for overlanding adventures.
Lastly, one of my goals is to get my extra by the summer.
Describe your involvement with GSARA.
I found the GSARA via the Hillsborough County Fair when we searched for new 4-H clubs for our kids after settling in New Hampshire.
What is one piece of advice you would give a new Ham?
You do not need a lot of fancy equipment to get on the air. Thanks to the HOA at our Texas house, I started with a very old, used Yaesu radio that I bought off of eBay and a reasonably inexpensive MFJ dipole that I had to hide.
Second, experimentation is key. I lost count of how many antennas and setups I tried while trying to “hide” mine or set up temporarily at a rental after first moving to New England.
Is there anything else you would like to share?
I also really enjoy off-roading, anything outdoors like snow boarding, mountain biking, camping, riding my Harley, and more.
