Good Food, Great Company, and the GSARA Community
Sometimes amateur radio is about making a rare contact, testing a new antenna, or squeezing one more station into the log.
Other times, it is about jumbo shrimp, steak, hamburgers, ice cream, and spending a beautiful summer afternoon with friends.
Howard, K9NPD, recently opened his Nashua home to GSARA members and hosted a fantastic club barbecue on his backyard deck overlooking the pool. Around 20 guests gathered to enjoy a sunny summer day, with temperatures in the low 80s, low humidity, and the kind of relaxed conversation that makes club events so enjoyable.
Howard certainly made sure nobody went home hungry. The menu included jumbo shrimp, chicken kabobs, marinated sirloin steak, hamburgers, hot dogs, macaroni salad, egg salad, fresh greens, and plenty of other options. The afternoon was topped off with ice cream and brownie sundaes—because apparently Howard believes a successful barbecue should require at least two trips through the food line.
Events like this are an important reminder that GSARA is about much more than radios and repeaters. It is about friendships, shared interests, welcoming new people, learning from one another, and creating opportunities for members to spend time together away from the microphone.
There are plenty of ways to get involved with GSARA. You can attend a club meeting, join us at a POTA activation, help with a build project, volunteer at an outreach event, participate in a fox hunt, assist with a class, or simply come to a social event and get to know some fellow members.
You do not need to be an expert operator or have a room full of equipment. Just show up, introduce yourself, and take part in whatever interests you. The more members who participate, share ideas, and help organize activities, the stronger and more enjoyable the club becomes.
