Eric Pfeifer (N1JUR)

How long have you been a Ham?

I've been pursuing this hobby since 1991, when I acquired my No-Code Technician license. I've been fortunate to have several Ham radio mentors who have guided me throughout my journey. Thanks to their support, I've been involved in several exciting activities, including Scouting, the local Ham Club in my teen years (Police Amateur Radio Team - PART), and I even helped found the Westford Academy High School Radio Club. Despite being limited by my license class, I had the opportunity to use the Club call and make the first - and only - contact with the Space Shuttle Atlantis. It was an unforgettable experience! You can learn more about my Ham journey on my website (N1JUR.COM)

What mode(s) within Amateur Radio do you enjoy operating?

Until I can setup my antennas with no HOA restrictions, I hope to make more satellite contacts and eventually try EME Moonbounce.

Describe your involvement with GSARA.

I currently hold the position of Membership Coordinator at the club. My passion lies in organizing events and activities, and for the last three years, I have been the chairperson for both Winter and Summer Field Days.

What is one piece of advice you would give a new Ham?

Don't let anyone discourage you from trying any aspect of the hobby. If you can't find someone nearby doing the specific mode or activity you're interested in, turn to the internet. There's a vast online community filled with people willing to help you in any way they can. Don't let negative individuals steal your joy.

Is there anything else you would like to share?

I have a strong passion for Ham Radio, but I am also a devoted husband and father to my wife and two wonderful children. Despite their occasional eye-rolling when I discuss Ham Radio, they are always my supportive cheerleaders and encourage me in all my endeavors. I also have my own YouTube channel (N1JUR Amateur Radio) and am a co-host of Live Free and Ham Podcast with Todd (W1STJ) and Ryan (W1SNH).
