How long have you been a Ham?

I have been a ham since 1972, with about a 10-year gap in early 2000.

What mode(s) within Amateur Radio do you enjoy operating?

I am interested in SDR but have not yet taken the plunge.

Describe your involvement with GSARA.

As a member of GSARA since 2010, I have actively participated in more than 50 VE sessions. My responsibilities within the organization include organizing and scheduling reservations for meeting places and VE sessions, preparing and distributing food during field day, and participating in field day setup and takedown. Furthermore, I am involved in mentoring new hams and assisting in launching antennas. In my capacity as a GSARA board member, I played a key role in establishing and maintaining a daily net during the COVID-19 pandemic, which remains ongoing with the assistance of other members.

What is one piece of advice you would give a new Ham?

If you are a new ham radio enthusiast, it is worth remembering that this pastime encompasses a wide range of activities, and individuals may have diverse goals. Seek out like-minded individuals and foster relationships with them. It is advisable to refrain from coercing others into pursuing your own interests.

Is there anything else you would like to share?

It's rare to find true lifelong friends, but I've been fortunate enough to come across a few. Ham radio is an excellent way to connect with people who share similar interests and values.
